Express Entry

Express Entry streamlines the immigration process for both the immigrants and the employers.

Express Entry involves three steps: qualification, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Federal Skilled Worker

The Federal Skilled Worker program is for workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada.

To apply, individuals must first qualify for the Express Entry system. From there, the highest-ranking candidates are invited to apply for permanent residency.

Federal Skilled Trades Experience Class

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for those who want to become Canadian permanent residents and are qualified in a skilled trade.

Individuals seeking the Federal Skilled Trades Experience class must contact the province or territory they wish to work in to be assessed for their trade. They may also need an employer in Canada to provide experience and training.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program allows skilled workers with Canadian work experience to apply for permanent residency.

There are a number of conditions that must be met. Refugees and those who have gained work experience without temporary resident status are not eligible.

Arranged Employment

Arranged employment refers to any offers of employment to individuals residing outside of Canada. Individuals who have received a job offer must update this information in their Express Entry application.

Canadian immigration officers must be sure that the individual is capable of doing the offered work, either through experience or certification and licensing.

Family Sponsorship

Individuals can sponsor their spouses, partners, dependent children and parents/grandparents to come to Canada. The sponsoring individual financially supports their family member upon their arrival.

There are two different processes for sponsoring a family member: one for spouses, conjugal or common-law partners, and dependent children; the other for other eligible relatives.

Live-In Caregivers

Caregivers are qualified individuals who provide care for children, elderly persons, or persons with disabilities in private homes. Working under the caregiver program can lead to permanent residency in Canada, if certain requirements are met.

Canadian-based employers make applications on behalf of the caregiver to the Caregiver Program. Once accepted, the caregiver can then apply for and receive a work permit.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Applications

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows provinces to nominate specific individuals for immigration. This enables the province of Alberta to recruit workers to fill unique provincial economic needs.

Quebec Immigration

Quebec has its own rules when it comes to choosing immigrants coming into the province. The rules change based on Quebec’s need for skilled workers, trades, and investors.

One available immigration program is the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. This involves a two-step application process: an application to the Quebec government for a certificate of selection, and an application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for permanent residence.

Self-Employed Persons Class

Under the Self-Employed Persons Class, foreign nationals must have relevant experience, intention, and ability to be self-employed in Canada. They must also intend to make significant contributions to cultural activities.

To qualify for this program, an individual must have a minimum of two years of experience in cultural activities, athletics, or the purchase and management of a farm. This must occur in the five year period before the application date.

Students

Students coming to Canada to study may need a study permit. Students should apply for these permits before traveling to Canada.

The study permit is not a visa. A visitor or temporary resident visa will be provided upon approval of the student permit application. This visa allows students to travel to and enter Canada.

Refugee Claims

Refugees are individuals who have fled their home country due to persecution or fear of persecution. Through a refugee claim, these individuals can seek residence in a new country.

Persons seeking refugee status in Canada must undergo a screening and application process. The process depends on which country the individual is coming from and the current situation in that country.
